Once the engine is up to temperature the thermostat opens and the coolant flows around the whole system. The thermostat, and clutch or electrically controlled cooling fan work in conjunction to keep the water at the optimum temperature. This is why, once your car warms up, the temperature gauge should remain relatively static.
Feb 01, 2010· You may have some sensor problems that stem from the thermostat rather than the sensor. Your thermostat may be stuck open and causing improper readings. If you recently had your thermostat replaced, check to see that it was replaced with the correct temperature range. Cracked Block or Gasket. Your coolant light might be signs of a more major ...
1999 Saturn SL2 Still got flashing coolant temp light. I had new water pump installed at a garage the light went out. A week later it started flashing again. I changed the temp. sending unit, still flashing red dash light indicating coolant is low. Coolant is at full line in reservoir. Thermostat is about 2yrs old seems to be working fine.
Coolant Temperature Sensor Test. Now that you''ve located the ECT sensor on your vehicle, you''re ready to troubleshoot it. 1. Unplug the sensor electrical connector. 2. Get the engine surface temperature using an infrared thermometer or suitable cooking thermometer. Take the engine temperature on a location near the coolant temperature sensor.
Just replaced radiator and thermostat, but still hasn''t fixed the problem. 90 ... Flushed my radiator. 3) Drive only between 80 100km/h with the A/C on. 4) The moment the temperature goes up, I turn off the A/C. 5) When it returns to "normal" I turn on the A/C again. ... check the coolant temperature sensor it is used to monitor the ...
Jul 14, 2006· As for the overheat, today when I put the a/c on the needle went from between the 1/41/2 mark all the way into the red..not instantly, but pretty gradual over a 10 minute period. The fan whirrs seem normal to me. It kicks on when I turn the A/C and seems to kick on when the needle gets to about 1/2 way in the gauge.
jdarnold remove the sensor wire and ground it, the temp gauge should move to HOT. That would mean your gauge at least works. If it does not you may have to replace your instrument cluster. If it does move than consider another different sender. Make sure that it is one for a gauge not a temp... 19972003 Ford F150
5. If the Temperature Gauge Goes Up and Down. You may notice that your temperature gauge reading goes up and down, fluctuates in some kind of pattern, or is erratic. There may be several reasons for this: Low coolant level delaying thermostat opening and closing (check coolant level in the radiator). Air pockets in the cooling system; A coolant ...
Oct 27, 2011· Still not fixed, and now the check engine light was on. I drove to the Auto Zone where I bought the temp sensor for 25 to get that code read. On the way there, the temp began to read, both needle gauge and onboard computer. The A/C was now working and now all I needed was a check engine light reading (TEMP SENSOR/THERMOSTAT).
Oct 23, 2016· Ok so my temp gauge is fluctuating sometimes alot more then some it goes all the way up to overheat then goes back down to normal i just replaced thermo stat burped the radiator then a little bit ago it started fluctuating alot more and now when i get done driving it theres alot of antifreeze in the overflow tank and i can see that it comes out of the top of it to.
The Saturn SL1 is a fuelefficient car produced by General Motors. The high revolution engine in this car makes the coolant system a crucial part of the vehicle. The coolant system is controlled by a thermostat, which is set to open once the engine gets hot. At this point, the thermostat will release enough coolant to ...
Aug 12, 2016· Step 1: Make sure vehicle is on a level working area. Since you need to jack the front end up and will be placing the front end on jack stands, make sure your vehicle in on a flat surface. Do not jack up a vehicle on a driveway or incline. Step 2: Locate the coolant temperature sensor.
Dec 17, 2018· This data is sent to the ECM, which uses this data to regulate the air to fuel ratio, cooling fans, and ignition spark timing needed by the engine. Code P0118 is the result of the ECT sensor indicating a high voltage input from the coolant temperature circuit. (typically over )
An expert that has 1 follower. Contributor. 1 Answer. Re: Radiator fan will not come on, on my saturn 97 ... I have replaced the radiator, waterpump, thermostat, and cool temp sensor and my 1998 saturn sl still overheats. I have to find the relay and check that. These cars have a terrible cooling system. Posted on Nov 15, 2015.
Aug 09, 2010· Answer could be a faulty thermostat,or it could be a sign that your head gasket is about to blow ,or last of all your timing could be out of sync. Answer 2 from Inventus: It means your cooling system is funtioning properly. In a system having a coolant recovery tank, coolant in the radiator is always up to the brim, hot or cold. There is negligible or no air space.
2005 Pontiac Vibe wagon...over 300,000 no issues until recently. The temp gauge goes to overheat. Here is what has been done in the past two weeks. New thermostat, proper coolant, new radiator cap, sensor, and just installed a used gauge panel. Fan is plugged in....heat sensor gun shows normal temps. Help!
Apr 09, 2020· A contaminated coolant system will cause inconsistent readings and requires a full bleed of the system to repair. If you have air or something else in the lines, your gauge will probably be reading up and down as it passes through or stay cold if air bubbles get stuck on the sensor itself. A broken thermostat will throw your temperature gauge off.
Sep 25, 2018· when you start the engine, the low coolant level light should come on for a second or two and then go out. if it doesn''t go out, either the coolant level is too low or there is a problem with the sensor system. ` the light usually shows either a thermometer or a box, often with wavy lines to indicate liquid. it can also say “low coolant ...
May 24, 2018· If you have measured the coolant temp sensor in isolation ( lead disconnected) and it measures 3050 Ohms when the engine is hot or 140 Ohms when cold and the car''s temp gauge still doesn''t register with the sensor lead reconnected then there is a problem back towards the gauge and not in the sensor.
99 ford contour gauge shows running hot. Change both sensors near thermostat and the thermostat. ... valve that opens when a car engine reaches a set operating temperature and closes when a car engine is cold and warming up. If a thermostat gets stuck in the closed position, coolant will be prevented from reaching the engine, which will quickly ...
This could be an indicator of a bad head gasket. If the sensor for the gauge is truly bad, the only way test that theory is to install an aftermarket gauge, use an infrared temp sensor on the water outlet hose or replace the coolant temperature sensor. If this doesn''t help, you may need to take it to a mechanic and have them do a leakdown test.
Jun 06, 2016· Idk, I replaced it the same day and it worked fine for about 1 days, I was driving for about 20 mins and then noticed that the temp. Was raising out of nowhere, so I parked and turned it off, let it cool of 10 mins and turned it back on but it was still hot but the coolant was cooling the engine to normal temp.
Jun 29, 2018· 1. Your check engine light is on: If the engine’s computer detects a problem with the coolant temperature sensor, or its circuit, it will turn on the check engine light. 2. Your engine stalls: When the engine is first started, it will require more fuel in order to idle smoothly until it’s warmed up. The signal from the coolant temperature ...
Check your coolant level. Most causes of no heat are low coolant levels or blocked heater cores. If it overheated and has no heat I''ll beat its a low coolant level. Check for leaks. Just because the gauge didn''t go all the way up doesn''t mean much. Those cars trap air in the cooling systems when the level gets low. That will cause those problems.
Sep 20, 2016· upon cold start gauge on dash goes to full red in 1 or 2 seconds. When disconnecting single wire coolant sensor, and starting car gauge on dash stays at zero. However, when replacing with new sensor, gauge on dash goes to full red at startup, very surprised by this. (not possible the car is red hot yet at cold start) This is the new sensor:
Dec 01, 2020· 7 Causes of Car Temperature Gauge Stays on Cold. 1. Faulty Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. As we talked about, the most common problem with a faulty engine temperature reading is the coolant temperature sensor itself, sending the information to the cluster. Some cars have two temperature sensors, while other car models have one.
